This project (still in its infancy) is to fully refurbish and model this family home in the Hampstead Garden Suburb Conservation Area. The existing building is in need of a full refurbishment. The scope of the project is to create a new basement with swimming pool, steam room, sauna and cinema room. At ground level a new extension is proposed to better address the garden.
A large contemporary dormer adds a generous master suite with dressing room and bathroom. While the house benefits from a south-facing garden, the existing north side is extremely dark. The clients’ main concern was to allow light to flood into the interior and reach the darker side of the house. The proposed design creates a glazed slot throughout the south elevation to allow light to penetrate deep within the mass.
