This eighteenth-century barn is located within a Grade II listed estate, surrounded by beautiful Kent countryside. The owners wished to create a calming, interconnected space for yoga and wellness, whilst respecting the native character of the listed barn and conserving the existing fabrics.

In response to the brief, original brick walls and timber roof trusses were sympathetically preserved and feature strikingly throughout the project. Contemporary additions include a large Crittall screen and vast, sliding, glass doors that flood the room with natural light and draw in the verdant garden views. To allow the vernacular space to sing in all its glory, the materials used have been very understated.

Walls are panelled with a light plywood, ceilings are white, and the floor is finished with a smooth, concrete screed which incorporates underfloor heating. The project comprises of several adjoining spaces aimed at the complete experience of yoga and wellbeing. At the centre in the barn is the large yoga studio, with connecting relaxation suite and dining room serviced by an industrial kitchen.
