Architects in Notting Hill

Context Architecture is an award-winning RIBA Chartered practice working from a studio on Golborne Road, in the heart of Notting Hill. We design high-end homes across the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the wider West London area, from the sensitive renovation of period townhouses to contemporary extensions, basements and whole-house remodels.

A considered response to place

Notting Hill is one of London's most characterful neighbourhoods, from the stucco-fronted terraces around Ladbroke Grove to the garden squares of Holland Park. Our work always begins with the context: the fabric of the existing building, the quality of light, the rhythm of the street and the way you want to live. Every project is designed from first principles for its site and its owner, never to a house style.

Conservation areas and listed buildings

Much of Notting Hill sits within a conservation area, and many of its finest houses are listed. We have extensive experience guiding projects through planning and listed building consent in RBKC, balancing ambitious contemporary design with the care that historic fabric demands. We handle feasibility studies, planning applications, listed building applications and permitted development, and we manage the relationships with conservation officers that make consent achievable.

What we do

  • Whole-house renovation and remodelling of period townhouses and flats
  • Rear, side-return and roof extensions
  • Basement excavation, including swimming pools, spas and cinema rooms
  • New-build and infill homes
  • Listed building alterations and heritage work
  • Interiors, joinery and detailed design, down to kitchens and bathrooms

Selected projects

Our residential work across prime London includes a basement swimming pool and spa in Chelsea, a double-height remodel of a Chelsea mansion flat, and the restoration of a Grade II listed entrance in St James's. Each was designed around its setting and its owner, and delivered to a high standard on quality, cost and programme.
